I am completely amazed that in this day and age 21st Century a publisher would allow a tech book to be published without an index. Speaking of the publisher, this book has no edition, no date of print, no publisher information. I was half expecting it to be without an ISBN number. Almost look like the book was shipped from a 3rd world planet or something.

In short, I would save my money and head to the O'Reilly section to shop for tech books. I am most unamused by this book; especially, the tech contents. I think this book is self-published as it has no copyright and no index. The lack of the copyright doesn't matter but the lack of an index makes it very hard to find anything. What's worse is that this is it's badly written. Clearly this was just written and printed - no technical review and no editor.
You're getting the first draft of the book which makes it difficult and painful to read. For the first time in 5 years I'm returning a book. Kind of disappointed with the book. Lack of good examples. The Jedi May Build widget without Bootstrap Member Jan 4: Hi Raj, I can see the last post on this thread was a while ago so I'm hoping to still get an answer. I'm thinking of getting your book, however I'm trying to avoid using any frameworks like Bootstrap but noted in some of the comments that Bootstrap is used with some of the examples in your book.
Does the book explain creating widgets without using Bootstrap?

Also, the example website url does not work. Are you going to fix this? One of the commenters is right. The code is unnecessarily convoluted. The web page loads bootstrap. Perhaps a simple "hello world" widget example would have helped, which the author could then have expanded on to create this more scaleable example. My vote of 5 BeuBeuC Dec 0: HI, I am kind of new to widget development and wanted to know, why can't we use a simple Web Service call to the retrieve dynamic data rather than JSON? Web service call will need cross domain site access, which is not available in the browser, for security of the web page. Weren't they cross domain calls as well?
Also, how about WCF services? Would they be an option?

There are ways to use RSS feed in the web widget as you will see in chapter , and yes they are Cross domain calls as well. Do let me know if they are mentioned in your book.

I'm planning on ordering one today. Hi Rajesh, I am still yet to get your book since it is an international version and has to be ordered from abroad!! I was trying a few things from my end with this article of yours and wanted to know: The image that is displayed comes from the image URL that you're providing, which again seems to be residing in the server, since I noticed the Json data as: Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Why not do away with bootstrap. Unless the answer awaits us in Chapter 6? My vote of 2 rajesh-lal May 7: SimesA Thanks for your message, a simple hello world widget could have been done using plain JS code in the HTML page but if you are creating a production level web widget you need to keep performance, and maintainability in mind.
In a real scenario, a web widget have data coming from a remote server and processing is done on the data: The data coming from remote server is parsed, extracted and displayed this needs to be done in a modular way to enable maintainability and scalability thats why you see WidgetCreate.
Hope this answers your question. Thanks The Jedi May
