Some parts are inspiring, some show the sad-but-true reality of where we are as a nation today. The best thing about this book is that it's not just a list of facts and it's not a just collection of stories, it's a blend of facts with context that keeps you interested. Some of it is just really interesting and other parts of it are just fun to read!! For me, books like this are always a job. Everybody has an opinion about everything, it seems sometimes. The problem is that the opinions sometimes are not founded on anything resembling fact. Sometimes when I lecture, I will give out index cards to everybody in the room and ask them to write down three numbers. The first is the world's population, the second is America's population, and the third is New York City's population. You will be amazed that in a crowd of college educated people, very few get the numbers even approximately right.

The purpose of this book "The Unofficial US Census" is for the reader to start to get a numerical understanding of your country and the people who live in it. We can't make decisions, or at least correct decisions unless we are dealing with some semblance of truth. This book helps you get at the truth.

The authors take the time to display the facts they are trying to get across in very interesting ways. This results in an effort that is both entertaining and informative, and God only knows how boring statisticians can make numbers and so uninteresting, that the reader yearns for sleep. Let me give you an idea of what's in this book.
