That crisis has arrived, and it is that Maruul and Arnhem's village is under assault from developers and exploiters. So, Arnhem was attacked and eaten by a huge primal sea monster while diving in the reefs in an attempt to find that legacy so that they can save their village.

Zone Unknown Series by Paul Zindel

As Cliff, PC, and Maruul investigate the area in which Arnhem was killed they are attacked again, now leaving both PC and Maruul traumatized, and at a loss as to what to do. They can't go to the authorities; they didn't believe Maruul about Arnhem, and if they believe them this time, then the authorities might shut everything down and the treasure would never be found. So they go to tribal elder Wally Wallygong to find out what they are to do.

DIARY OF A U-BOAT COMMANDER - FULL AudioBook

So, regrouping, they restart their investigate. While investigating the high pitched sound that always accompanies the giant fish attacks, they go aboard a near-by research ship run by the very mad Dr. Ecenbarger, a ship that may more to do with the attacks than they at first think. Ecenbarger in particular being an extremely cartoonish version of your plundering mad scientist.

Another problem is PC's screwed up family life, which is glossed over and never resolved, with his grandmother's beginning Alzheimer's being especially made light of. Zindel also has the annoying habit of constantly and confusingly changing the story's, and the character's, viewpoint. Sometimes from one character to another on the same page. The end result is that "Reefs Of Death" is a story that has several bloody and gory deaths, and a menacing, sociopathic, and psychotic villain.

This is not a story for the very young, but those older children raised on modern tv, for instance, shouldn't have any problems with a novel like this which has a strong social consciousness as an integral part of its plot. Zindel doesn't talk down to his target audience, he doesn't shy away from showing any violence that the story needs, thus the story is fast moving, violent, and has an exciting finish that should appeal to many readers. So while not essential, "Reefs Of Death" is a better than average juvenile horror thriller, even if the author gives the impression that he's slumming with a novel that has a rushed feel to it.

Amazon has a tendency towards shuffling their reviews arount, so this review is only meant for the Hyperion paperback version. At the beggining of Reef of Death, I felt like putting it down and not looking back.

It seemed like a very poorly put together book and Pual Zindel seemed like he put very little research and effort into it, yet I kept reading. Reef of Death is about a teen nicknamed PC.

He gets a call from his uncle inviting him to accompany him with a treasure hunt, pretty original huh? But it gets better. It's not pirates treasure, it's an old Aboriginal fortune that was saftley hidden a long time ago in the waters off of Australia. Now the Aboriginal village needs the money because they're getting kicked off their own land.

PC, his uncle Cliff, an Aboriginal girl fom the village, and a few others set out to find the treasure but there is a strange freighter next to where the the treasure is supposed to be, and every time someone goes diving, a mini-whale-of-a-fish comes after them. This book picks up in the end and it makes you feel like Zindel is maturing in his writing the farther you read. American teen PC is visiting his uncle in Australia. He meets Maruul, an Aboriginal girl whose brother is missing. After PC's uncle dies, the two begin to suspect foul play.

But nothing can prepare them for the horrors they will face as the uncover a devious scientist's plot and encounter a vicious sea monster under the Great Barrier Reef. A Kid's Review 4. The Book starts out in Austrilaia in present time. I thought this book was not the best I ever read but one of the best books. I would recommend this book because it has alot of action and mystery. Right in the very beginning of the book there is an attack on a scuba diver and they keep happening through the book. PC , Maruul, and Cliff wanted to stop the fish creature from killing more people so they set out but will they be able to stop this thing before it kills them too?

According to a cryptic legend, the secret that will save the people of a small Aboriginal village lies at the bottom of an Australian reef inhabited by a monstrous creature. Two deadly attacks unite a beautiful Aboriginal girl and a resourceful American boy, who quickly discover that the monster is not their biggest obstacle: Few YA writers can spin a tale of terror with the deftness and macabre humor of Zindel.

The two initial monster attacks expertly grab the reader's attention and set the brisk pace of a plot that presses forward to a most satisfying conclusion. Best of all, with her spiked heels, dingo-hide-clad henchmen, and giant crabs that literally tear the faces off her torture victims, Dr.
